First, a close-up of a charm in progress. These are for the Art Unraveled Charm Swap hosted by Belinda Spiwak. AU is coming up soon, and these need to be done to give to Belinda at the venue. She's going to swap them out right there and then. That's practically instant gratification!
Mine are glass globs with a painted background and the word "Art". I had a blast making some painted text pages the other day, scribbling with Cray Pas oil pastels, dabbing with acrylic paints - the cheapie ones as well as some Lumiere, then fussy cutting (a quilting term for carefully cutting something out that you want to feature) the words I'd printed from Word on my printer, and gluing the whole thing together. The glass globs are really inexpensive at Michael's. Of course, I'm doing the hard part now. I've cut out 1" circles from some black sticky-back copper to use for the backing before I solder them. I used a 3/4" circle punch to cut out the paper backings before I glued the words on them. If you take the bottom off the punch and turn it upside down, you can choose what is where on what you punch and make sure that you don't overlap one of the edges. The tedious part is applying the copper to the globs and burnishing it! The fun part will be soldering them.
The 1" grid is on one of my fave mini cutting mats, so you can see how close-up these are.
This is my first attempt at making a beaded chain. Not too bad for informed guesswork!
